Event Preview // Red Hot and Racing Ready- JFOM Returns this Weekend

The Joondalup City Centre will transform into a motoring enthusiast’s playground this weekend as the Tyrepower Joondalup Festival of Motoring roars into its third year from May 2-4.

The free, family-friendly event combines the elements of motorsport and motor show with all the entertainment, fun, and flavour of a festival, making it a must-do for petrolheads and families alike.

Event Director Justin Hunt says the festival has evolved since its inception to become a highlight on the Perth automotive calendar, attracting more than 20,000 people to the Joondalup City Centre.

“The way the residents embrace the event, with people sitting on their verandahs cheering and waving, creates an incredible atmosphere that adds to the excitement,” said Justin.

“It’s not just for motorheads who turn out to see the racecars blast around the track, but also for enthusiasts who appreciate the more subtle elements of motoring culture.

“One of the most heartwarming things is seeing little kids’ faces light up when they spot a Lamborghini, Ferrari or a beautifully restored classic. It’s always such a special moment, and it brings a real sense of pride to the owners.”

This year’s festival theme is “Red Goes Faster,” featuring a collection of iconic red cars that have made their mark in automotive history, perfectly complementing the high-octane action on track.

“Everyone has different interests, but we all share a love for cars, good food trucks, and a nice glass of wine or beer — so there’s truly something for everyone,” Justin added.

It all kicks off on Friday evening with special events before the public program begins Saturday morning with the JFOM Car Jumble, a ‘car boot sale’ style event featuring spare parts and motoring memorabilia from 9am to midday.

In the afternoon, the festival focus shifts to celebrating American and Australian muscle cars for Steel Bumpers and Beverages, a co-hosted event between the Festival and Northern Steel Car Club. From 4pm to 9pm, classic, rare four-wheeled beauties will be displayed in Joondalup’s civic carpark, along with a pop-up bar and delicious food trucks.

Sunday attendees can look forward to the thrill and excitement of cars in full flight when a select few public roads in the Joondalup City Centre are closed to the public but open to high-horsepower traffic for the Tyrepower Joondalup City Sprint.

The Sprint course has been shortened compared to previous years, with a removed hairpin section and a more dynamic roundabout near ECU, improving both safety and residents’ access. With over 100 cars entered for this year’s Sprint, the changes promise to deliver an even more exciting event for competitors and spectators alike. The competitors will do four separate runs of the 1.8km course with the aim of crossing the finish line with the fastest time.

Off-track on Sunday, there will be hundreds of static vehicles on display from Classic Cars & Coffee (including JDM), Rexpo 2025 showcasing all things Subaru, the MTA WA Member’s Zone, and many of Perth’s car groups including the Hyundai N Club, Ferrari Club, and Lamborghini Club.

Tyrepower Central Park will be the heart of the action throughout the weekend, with live music, food vans and a wide range of drinks to enjoy, making it the perfect vantage point to catch the on-track action.

The Tyrepower Joondalup Festival of Motoring is a short stroll from the Joondalup Train Station, and organisers encourage all attendees to take advantage of the convenient access to public transport. Those coming by car are asked to plan their route as there will be road closures in place. Road closure and parking information can be found on the JFOM website.
